How to create a SILC chatroom

As a follow-up to my prior post, this is a smaller one on creating a SILC chat room (known as a “channel” in SILC parlance) from within Pidgin.

1.  In Pidgin, click on Buddies -> Add a Chat:

2.  Select the SILC account from the dropdown, create a channel name (whatever you like), give it a Passhprase (if you want to secure it from others, otherwise you can leave it blank), a local Alias (optional), and add it to one of your local groups in Pidgin.

3. Then, I right clicked on the chat and said “Join”

4. Then I went to “Conversation”-> “More” -> “Channel Authentication” and added the passphrase: XXXXXXXXX to create the channel as “passphrase authenticated”.

5. Then I when to “Conversation”-> “More” -> “Set Permanent” to make the channel permanent (so I could leave and come back later as the founder)

That should be it!
