Digital Maps

Here is my main maps page.  As far as I know, every map here is available via public domain.  If you feel any are not public domain, please email me so I can investigate.

I have spent quite a lot of time assembling these maps and it takes money to host this page and to pay for the bandwidth.  So, if you would like to assist keeping this page online and active, please help out by donating any amount you feel comfortable with.
  pixel Digital Maps

Almost every map here has been used by me in OziExplorer, and since I have only been collecting maps for use, I really have only focused on areas where I might likely travel (mostly the Western US).  While most of the maps are topo maps, there are a few other maps such as road maps, public land maps and reference maps.

Tools:

Compression/Decompression

In General, I have used 7zip compression for the best level of compression, and because its an open source application.  You can get 7zip from these locations:

STABLE [v 4.57]   x32 version     x64 version    BETA   please download directly

Mr. Sid viewer

Some files are stored in a format known as "Mr. Sid".  To view these files, you can use THIS stand-alone viewer if your image viewer doesn’t support these files.  You can also get it from HERE as I did.  (Here is a really nice page of Mr. Sid viewers)

Source Notes:

Clicking on the Source name will link you to that site in another open window.

Libremap [*L = source is Libremap]

  1. These are USGS topo maps purchased by donation all in one shot.  Consequently some of them are pretty old.  I have experienced this first hand, and would love to hear from you when you find particular maps which are out of date (roads are shown, or no longer exist)
  2. My sets are simply all of the Libremap’s 24K quads bundled and then split into 700MB chunks.  You will need to download all of them to make sure you get all the parts since I didn’t take the time to make sure the splits occurred properly across the map boundaries.
  3. The files included are .tif [the map image], .fgd [ ] and .tfw [ ].
  4. I am working on posting my oziexplorer .map files, let me know if there is interest in these as well.
  5. All of the Libremaps include the map collar (which contains all the written info like key, projection etc).

ELMaps [*E = source is ElectricMaps]

  1. These maps usually contain .map files created by the folk(s) at Electric Maps
  2. The 24K maps are kind of sparse, but they seem to have a pretty comprehensive collection of 100K and 250K maps
  3. For the 100K and 250K maps, each state has its own .7z file, however the 24K maps are separate

BLM

UTAHGIS [*U = source is UtahGIS]

  1. Only Utah maps
  2. Very nice collarless high quality 24K 250dpi geo referenced scans.  Also have mosaics of countywide 24K’s (which are aggregations of the 24K quads into larger county sized maps)
  3. Pretty comprehensive collection for Utah topo maps and GIS vector data

NATFOR

NBMG [*N = source NBMG]

  1. Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology
  2. 100K DRG’s, tiff, .twf and .fgd of all Nevada
