Here is the list of questions I SHOULD have gotten answers to in writing from Marty Jackson of “Off-Road International” (AKA Racefab), before I gave her my credit card number to purchase one of the off-road trailers.
1. What date will the trailer be shipped to me? [IN WRITING, ideally on the quote]
2. What is the refund policy? [good luck on this one]
3. What is the warranty on the trailer?
Because I don’t live too far from the manufacturing facility, I asked if I could pick up the trailer instead of spending the money on shipping. I also know I would have to pick it up on the weekend instead of during the week since I didn’t want to take vacation time to pick up the trailer. When I was trying to decide on which trailer to purchase, and I asked Marty this question, the answer was “Sure, we have a lot of folks pick up their trailers, and the weekend is no problem”.
However, when it came time (many many months later) to pick it up, the story was a bit different…
1. You can pick up the trailer on Saturday before 12 noon with no problem.
2. Sunday is not an option to pick up the trailer.
3. If you need to pick up the trailer after 12N on Saturday, you have to pay one of the staff $75/hour to wait for you. The $75/hour is the normal rate they pay their welders/staff, and it makes you wonder why sitting around waiting for say 4 hours would rate the same pay as say welding up a race car chassis. But anyway, none of this is negotiable, so just realize if you want to pick up the trailer, you can ONLY do it before 12N on Saturday on a weekend.
Suggestions to potential buyers:
1. Only put 1/2 of the money down [or LESS]
2. Check your credit cards buyer dispute process BEFORE you buy here…
3. Get EVERYTHING in writing
4. Keep some final amount out until AFTER delivery — you had to pay before you had the trailer, they can wait until a final fully agreed upon product is delivered.
